Books, Science, and Art

Look at me! I'm purple! Haha, so silly. So, hello peoples. We added two of you today. Kind of. They don't exactly have names. And the only thing we knew about them is their hair color . . . the starter of charries. Cool. ANYWAY! Today we'll be talking about books, science, and art! YAY!

Yup! Books, science, and art! Oh, and I, Marie, am green. Jo is purple.

YERP! So. Most of you probably saw that I just finished a book. The Selection. In two days! I'm so proud! I'm a very slow reader, so that's amazing. I really liked it.

Yes. It is quite amazing. I, on the other hand, am a pretty fast reader when I feel like it. I read City of Bones in 12 hours because it was so good. City of Bones, by the way, is around 500 pages.

Wow, that is amazing. I am getting very distracted. ANYWAY! Let's talk about science!

Okay, science. Uhmm. Anything you want to know about science?

Ummm! When did you really get interested in science? That's what I want to know.

Now that, is a very hard question. Let's think . . . I have no idea. But the summer before sixth grade I got really into science. I watched science videos all summer. And then I loved when we learned about astronomy in class that year. But I'm 100% sure it started before that, I just can't remember when.

Smiley face! That's cool! I remember I got into writing and reading because of you! It's all your fault! In a good way! Anyway, I've never really been interested in science. It was something that didn't intrigue me as much. But because of Marie, I like it a whole lot better now. Like reading. And I prefer astronomy and biology to anything else. I think. Yeah!

Yup, that would be my fault(: And science has always been a part of my life. My parents are both scientists, and I've always been curious. I love figuring out how things work.

You see how smart my best friend is? I bet she's smarter than your best friend! Just kidding, your best friend is probably very smart too. (But mine's smarter!) But sometimes she's stupid. But that's okay because sometimes I'm stupid. I still love her all the same! Anyway, art! I never really paid attention to art. Like, I never did any. Not until I met Marie. So my interest in art is all her fault too! She's the one who got me started.(:

Aw, thanks Jo:) And yes. I did get you started on art. I've always loved drawing, but until fifth grade I wasn't very good at it. A girl in my class taught me how to draw Manga, and that's the style I draw in now. I must admit, I'm still not very good.

I know. Me too. I'm not that good. Three years! But still! After she was taught, she kind of taught me and then there we were. Drawing manga. But in school, in art class I think we're great! We're pretty good at all the assignments. I was hoping it would help me improve, but it got me ingested in all art too. So . . . yeah!

Yeah. Now I can't draw something small anymore, it takes a lot of work to get the feet of a drawing in the frame. All because my art teacher was always like, "FILL THE SPACE!!!!" and now that's ingrained in my head. It's not a bad thing, I guess. Just a bit annoying.

YES. ME. TOO. I really don't like it. But it's not really a bad thing. And we have learned a lot of things in art. Like how to observe. I like observing. It's a good skill to have, especially in art when we had to draw what was in front of us. Which we have to do this year too I just remembered.

Observing is fun. I observe people. Not in a creepy stalker way, I just want to figure out how they work. I haven't figure it out yet. And this is totally off topic, but you should go listen to "Back to Black" by Amy Winehouse.

Yeah, me too. But I observe them to figure out how to make my writing more realistic. And how to draw them too. Is it a good song?

Yeah, I don't even bother to make my drawings kind of realistic, they always turn out terrible when I try. AND YES!!! It's a good song, or at least I think so. Her voice kind of reminds me of Adele. And it's more of a sad song with a lot of soul in it. It's really good is what I'm trying to say.

Well I will be sure to look it up! So . . . I'm guessing that's all we have for you today . . . ?

I believe so . . .

Well, then I guess, I will talk to you Tuesday and Marie will tomorrow! Love you all! In a non creepy way! So, bye for now!

Pozegnanie fictional people!

IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!

YAY!! It's Friday! My favorite day of the week! So I don't know what to post about, so I'll just post a few random facts! Sound good?
~What is called a "French kiss" in the English speaking world is known as an "English kiss" in France.
~Coca-Cola would be green if colouring weren’t added to it.
~The average lead pencil will draw a line 35 miles long or write approximately 50,000 English words.
~Beetles taste like apples, wasps like pine nuts, and worms  like fried bacon.
~The elephant is the only mammal  that can't jump!
~If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.
~A person cannot taste food unless it is mixed with saliva. For example, if strong-tasting substance like salt is placed on a dry tongue, the taste buds will not be able to taste it. As soon as a drop of saliva is added and the salt is dissolved, however, a definite taste sensation results. This is true for all foods. Try it!
~The fingerprints of koala bears are virtually indistinguishable from those of humans, so much so that they could be confused at a crime scene.
That's all I have for you today!

So Jo found this comic book store and so we went there today. It was so awesome! And it smelt good. Like comic books. I like weird things. But anyway! I got this Harley Quinn comic and one of those . . . what are they called . . . Pop! That's what! those figurine things! Have you people seen those? At places like Barnes and Noble? Well, anyway, I got one of those. It was Harley Quinn, of course. I'm quite fond of her. I like villains . . . they're always interesting characters.
Anyway, that's all I have for you.

Jo and I talk . . . And Get Off Topic . . .

Hello imaginary people. How are you doing today? Good? Good. It's our first Sunday writing together, so, YAY! Today, we shall be discussing our writing pieces and how we write together and help each other and all that fun stuff.

Yup! Jo pretty much summed it up! Oh, and I, Marie, will be pink. Jo is blue.

YES. Hello. ANYWAY, warning, we'll probably stray from the topic because we are so very good at that. Because we're awesome.

We really are. Straying from the topic is one of our specialties. So, anyway. How we write together. Well . . . we always start with an idea. Obviously. And we use Google Docs.

Yep, always our trusty Google Docs. Then we'll usually create a doc where we will develop our characters. Oh, and we usually write fiction. Isn't it usually fantasy Marie?

Yup! Fiction! Mostly fantasy, but Y.S. Ping is science fiction . . . isn't it? I think so. But always fiction. Fiction is amazing. Oh! And we always text! We text each other ideas mostly. Mainly to see what the other person thinks.

And our ideas usually start when we lay in bed at night . . . we make up scenarios to help us fall asleep, and that's when we get our best ideas.

Exactly. That's actually how I came up with my book that's almost published. Scenarios for years and years. And then I finally wrote it down. You have no idea how many drafts it took to get something decent. But anyway. We get ideas, tell each other, and then write them down somewhere. Either in another doc or in the current doc.

Yep! Then it depends if we want to write it together, or one person writes while the other looks it over and edits and helps with more ideas, like my short story about a Robin Hood thingie. And if we want it to be a book idea or a short story, we de decide that too. Usually when we write together, it's books. And then, that brings me to mention that we also have a lot of stories based off of dreams we have and stuff.

I'm usually the editor, even if we're writing together. I usually go back over it and edit things. I find editing fun. I'm usually the spelling and grammar editor person, and Jo usually edits for plot holes and things like that. Which brings me to say that Microsoft Word is so amazing. I'm not really the best editor in the world so I'll usually copy and paste it to a Microsoft Word document and let Word do the editing.

Yes, that's true. She's going to be my editor now. When I become a writer, and she's at NASA, on lunch breaks she'll be editing my books. And also , if one of us has writer's block, we'll call on the other for help and we work things out. Hmm. Then after that we pretty much write the story, and we haven't ended one yet. Marie, would you like to explain how we type together?

Editing books on lunch breaks at NASA . . . hmmmm, sounds fun(: And yes, I'll explain that. So how we write is basically like how you write in a RP. If you know what a RP is, if you don't I'm not gonna take the time to explain. So. Anyway. When we write we take turns, and our turn ends when either A.) we run out of ideas or B.) we've written a lot and decide to give the other person a turn. So it's not really like a RP at all . . .

Close enough right? Yes! Should I explain some of our charrie stuff??

Well, I guess if you think about it . . . And yes, explain our charrie stuff!

So, let me think . . . hmm. Oh yes. For me, I mainly make my characters based off me, except, a better version of me that is cooler. And we speak to our charrs a lot. But, we've never killed any in our stories, it's just, sad! So, we usually don't. And a lot of the stories we write are in many of the charrs POV, not just one. Anything to add Marie? I don't really know anything else to write about it . . .

Uhmm, just that charries = characters. And that I have killed one character. It was sad. But it wasn't in one of our stories, it was in a RP.

Oh yeah, that was dad. I've never killed any. Well, any that are introduced in the story. Alive. And our writing takes a lot of time and thinking and it's very collaborative. And when we work together, it just turns out so perfect. Like, we work together so perfectly. Metaphorically, because, nothing is actually perfect. But, it just fits together so freaking well. Like we're one writer. THE ULTIMATE WRITER! Hey, do you think if one of us is more idea based and the other filters the ideas?

Yeah, it really is like the ultimate writer. You seriously cannot tell who wrote what, unless we specifically remember writing a scene. And IDK. I feel like we do both equally.

Yeah, that's very true. And I suck at remembering things, so yeah. Ha, but when we draw a person together, that's a whole other story! It just looks messed up and disproportional! Remember when we drew Theodora? Oh gosh, that was terrible!

Oh yes! That was so insanely terrible! That was . . . definitely not our best. But hey, at least we tried, right?

That is so very true. We did try. Oh! But when we make collages together, those are fantastic! I really liked that one we made for that contest. THAT WE WON! That was awesome.

Now I feel stupid. We won a contest? Making a collage?

Yeah! Remember last year? The diversity poster contest at school? And it won and got in the display case?

OH!!! I remember now! But did it really win? IDK. OH! And we still have to make that logo thing for NJHS!!

Oh! Yeah we do! And it did win, it got in the display case remember?

Oh, right. I just assumed that every poster got in the display case . . . But anyway. We have till . . . Tuesday to turn in that logo thingy, right?

No we  have the whole school week to finish it.

Oh yeah, huh! So, we'll work on it during lunch . . . and if we have any extra time I guess.

Yes, okay. That sounds like a plan. So, I'm guessing that's all we have for you today imaginary peoples. Unless Marie has anything else to say . . . ?

Nope, I think that's it. So . . . until tomorrow for me and Tuesday for Jo! Pozegnanie!

Jo and Marie are out! PEACE!

*rolls eyes* Oh Jo.

YES, we did have a good time

Yesterday was quite fun, but also quite exhausting. And that's a great picture Jo. You take so many stalker pictures. I never know when you take them. ANYWAY. This is random, but I'm actually texting Jo in that picture. "Why?!" Well, we didn't have any paper or pencils and so I texted Jo all that information on the board so we could write it down later. And then Jo was like, "Wait, why don't we just take a picture of it?" So yeah. And I have really bad posture in that picture. I normally correct myself, I guess then wasn't one of those times. And there is a unicorn on the board. Jo drew it. So yeah. That's my post for today. Because I have no idea what else to talk about.

WELL, we had a good time didn't we Marie?

So, today Marie and I had to help the Seventh graders around the school, it was orientation day. And we're ambassadors. And that's what we do.  And we also had to prepare for the display case. We were the only ones actually working on it, but we did it together and so it was awesome!

Some of my Writing

So, like the title says, I'm going to be sharing some of my writing. Here we go.

The door slammed shut behind me. I took in the cold metal walls. I was going to be here awhile. I sighed as I slid down the door into a sitting position. I pulled my knees up to my chest and bowed my head.
Just then the door opened and I fell back, hitting my head against the cold metal floor. Oh, it was so cold.
“Let go of me!!!” I head Violette scream. I immediately stood up. Violette was joining me here. She was shoved into my cell, and the door slammed shut immediately, drowning out any opportunity for escape. I took a deep breath before sitting down again, in my original position. Violette let out a scream, pounding against the metal door. Then she fell on the floor, giving up. “It’s no use,” she whispered. I just looked at her. She looked up at me. “Don’t you want to escape?” she asked.
I sighed. “It’s like you said. It’s no use trying, or even thinking about that,” I replied before resting my chin on my knees. “There’s no point.”
“Come on India, we both know you want to! This isn’t like you! You never give up!” I turned away.
“There’s no use trying anymore. We’re stuck here forever.”
Violette stood up and crossed the room before sitting down, her back to me. “I can’t believe you,” she whispered. I turned away from her. Maybe I should start at the beginning.
~A scene from Game On

“Well, if you’ll excuse me, I have to talk to Raul.” Once I found him, I led Raul to a corner of the gym. “So,” I started to say, “I’ve noticed that you’re. . . what’s the word? Oh yeah, you’re a little fixated on Zara.” “Well first off, why does it matter to you? It’s not like we’re already dating,” he said.
“It does too matter!” I replied.
“Uhh, why?”
“Because-because I like you!”
“Aww, how sweet,” he said. “But I still don’t get why you’re mad at me. You liking me has nothing to do with how I liked Zara.”
“Yes it does!”
“How?” he asked unbelievingly.
“You’re always talking to Zara, you always look at her, and you are flirting with her! And it makes me feel. . . it makes me feel like you don’t care about how I feel!” My voice started to rise.
“You’re just being jealous. I do care about how you feel, but you shouldn’t be making this a bigger deal than it is!” Raul started shouting.
“Oh really? How do I know you care about my feeling?”
“Of course I care! I’m not some heartless jerk!”
“Yeah right! I highly doubt that you care about me at all!” I shouted.
“You’re making me sound like the villain of this story! Is a guy allowed to like a girl without his crush getting all angry at him?!”
“W-well-”
“See!?! I’m right and you know it!”
“No you’re not!”
“Oh really? I get that you’re angry, but you don’t have to make this such a big deal!”
“Well of course I’m angry! I’m-I’m,” I screamed in frustration. “I’ve been noticing your body language lately, and it’s pretty obvious that you like her. Remember when you asked me to the dance? I could tell that you didn’t want to ask me!”
“So what if I liked Zara? It still doesn’t matter!”
“It does too matter! You just admitted it!” I screamed. Then I realized. Liked. “Wait. . . what do you mean liked.

“Liked. Past tense of like.” Raul explained with a little bit of anger in his voice. Then he leaned in and kissed me on the cheek. As soon as he finished he turned and walked away while I stood there in shock. Wait, what had just happened?
~A scene from Y.S. Ping

AS SOON AS WE WERE THROUGH THE DOOR IT SHUT BEHIND US WITH A SLAM.
“Um, I'm starting to think that this is a bad idea,” Melody stated.
“Oh really?” I asked sarcastically. She glared at me and we continued farther into the room. It was really dark without the light from outside. Black curtains covered the windows. I couldn’t really see anything, but I bumped into a coffee table, a wooden chair, an upholstered chair, and a statue.  From the noise that Melody was making, I guessed that she was running into things too. Then we saw a light that looked like it was coming from a small lantern. I started to run to it and managed to stumble into a million different objects. I could hear Melody running behind me, crashing into everything. The closer I got to the light, the farther it got. I ran as far as I could before I felt like collapsing, then I ran even farther and the light got closer. Soon the light illuminated the room and I could actually see it. There was a coffee table in the middle of the room, four red couches arranged around it, a lamp in every corner, one window on every wall, and red curtains covering the windows. The walls were painted a deep red, and even the carpet was red. That freaked me out a little because the paint on the walls looked like blood. Melody ran into the room behind me and rammed into me.
“Whoa,” I exclaimed.
“Sorry,” she breathlessly apologized. “What is this room?” she added.
“I don’t know, but only one of us should go in the tunnel,” I suggested.
“Why?” she asked.
“Because if only one of us can come out, one of us should go in and make it out,” I explained.
“I’ll go,” she volunteered.
“It would probably be better if I went,” I countered.
“What if you have to answer riddles?” she argued. That was a real concern.
“I’ll just think it through really well until I come up with a good answer,” I answered.
“Fine, but if you don’t come out within three hours I’m going in,” she accepted.
“Okay, you do that,” I replied as I entered the tunnel. As soon as I was in I could hear rocks grinding on rocks as the doorway behind me closed. There was very little light; the only light came from a torch about a foot ahead. It was freezing cold and it smelt like wet dog. I continued down the path even though I didn’t want to. The farther I went from the door, the colder it got. Soon the bricks turned to ice blocks that were semi-see through. I touched one to see if they would melt, but that was a really bad idea. It was so cold that it burned. I pulled my hand away sharply, and it felt like I had been burned. I pulled my cloak tighter around my shoulders and kept going.
I tried to move quickly so that I wouldn’t be gone longer than three hours. I wanted to run but I knew that I would slip on the ice. Soon the ice blocks became blocks of obsidian, like the Potentemquites castle. I had heard rumors that magic held the castle together, as in instead of mortar there was magic. These blocks, however, didn’t have magic holding them together. They had normal mortar. The obsidian made it darker that it had to be. It was already dark without any torches, but the obsidian seemed to make it even darker.
When it got darker I saw little things floating in the air, like jellyfish. They were purple, blue, and green ones. I tried to catch one to see what it was, but it nimbly flew out of the way. I gave up and kept walking with the “jellyfish” lighting my way. Then I came to a crossroads. What way should I go? I looked at the “jellyfish;” there seemed to be more of them to the right and less to the left. If there were less that might mean that the obsidian portion of this tunnel would end. Then again if there were more I would actually be able to see where I was going. So I closed my eyes, spun around until I got dizzy, and stumbled toward one of the tunnels.
As soon as I was sure that I was in a tunnel I opened my eyes to see which one I had picked. I had chosen the one that didn’t have very many “jellyfish.” Now that I was in the tunnel, I wanted to go into the other one, but I didn’t because if I did I would have wasted valuable time.
I continued down the corridor, walking against the wall so that I wouldn’t get lost. It seemed to take forever, but soon it wasn’t too dark anymore and more “jellyfish” appeared to guide my way. Soon I could see almost clearly and I started to run down the hallway. I bumped into a wall and kept going. Then the bricks became a weird, white, sparkly type of brick. They seemed to emit light and the “jellyfish” started to disappear. I kind of missed the “jellyfish” because they had helped me through the tunnel, but I had to keep going with or without the “jellyfish.” Then the tunnel widened into a cavern. I slowed to a stop and looked around. It was made of the same weird light-emitting bricks. The cavern had to be at least thirty feet across and maybe ten feet tall. There was nothing in it so I started to walk across. Boy was I wrong. Out of nowhere a huge monster appeared. It looked like a yeti, kind of. As in it was a yeti, but instead of being totally covered in fur it had patches of fur and patches of scales. It roared at me and I pulled out my sword. I hoped that this would be easy because I didn’t know how long I had been in there.
The yeti charged at me, and I dodged out of the way just in time. As soon as I was out of the way I brought my sword around and hit the yeti on the back. It roared and turned to face me again. I waited for it to charge again and it did. I did the same thing but harder. It worked and the yeti crumbled to dust. I dusted the dust off me and went to the end of the cavern, making sure that no other yetis would attack me. I made it out of the cavern and continued my path.
Then I came to another crossroads. I could go left or right. The left path was eerily quiet, and the right path had tons of noises coming from it. Why couldn’t there be a path in the middle? I didn’t know which one would be better. The eerily quiet one could mean all sorts of things. There was probably a super scary monster that everything in this maze was scared of but the loud path was a whole nother story. There were probably lots of things in there. There might even be crazy people in there. Claire had said that only one person could make it. So what would I rather do? Battle a lot of things, or battle one big scary thing? I thought for a while. I tried to think of what would be easier.
The big scary one would probably be harder, so I took the path on the right. I crossed my fingers and hoped that nothing here would be too hard to fight. I held my sword at the ready, just waiting for something to come jump out at me. Soon the noises tapered off. I didn’t relax though; just because I couldn’t hear anything didn’t mean that there wasn’t anything there. I walked slowly and noticed that the bricks had changed again. Now they looked like they were made of gold, but I couldn’t be sure. Maybe I had passed some kind of test and I had chosen the right path. I didn’t know for sure, so I kept my sword out and stayed alert. When nothing happened I started to put my sword away when, of course, something came out of nowhere.

Baking Tips and Tricks: Frosting!

I am coming to you today so that I can give you a couple tips and tricks for frosting. Things that I myself do. So here we go!
     ~Add salt.
You are probably thinking one of two things. "Dur! I already know that!" or something more like, "Salt?! That'll make it salty!!!" For those of you thinking the later/those of you who don't know, salt takes out the bitter stuff and makes it a bit sweeter. For example, if you use unsweetened cocoa powder for chocolate cupcakes, the salt will make it sweet. But salt can also balance it out, so if you have a really sweet cupcake you absolutely do not want super sweet frosting. Trust me, I know from experience as I bake stuff for church events. So. Add salt. Just a pinch. Not too much or it will get salty.
     ~Make yourself a little recipe.
"Huh?" you may be asking. Well, let me tell you. When I'm frosting my cupcakes I always run out of frosting. And what do you do when you need more frosting? Make more. But the problem always is, I have no idea how much food coloring and extract I dumped in that frosting. So. Make yourself a recipe. Write it down somewhere. Or you could just make a ton of frosting and put it in the freezer until you plan on using it. I haven't tried the later, but I assume that you could do that. Don't quote me on that.
     ~Use a cup.
"For what?" I can here you asking. For filling up your piping bag. I personally use a piping bag because I like them better, but I guess you could use this tip for just plastic bags too. Anyway. You need to get yourself a nice tall cup, one that is as long as your piping bag/Ziploc bag and a bit longer. Kay? And then you are going to stick your empty piping bag ((just read "piping" as "Ziploc" if that's what you plan on using)) in the cup and fold the top over, over the edge of the cup. You could use tape if you want it nice and secure. Then you just take your frosting and dump it in there. And voila! You piping bag is full, without frosting coating the outside.
~Make the frosting while your cupcakes are baking.
This one is pretty self explanatory. I'm pretty sure everyone does this. And when you finish baking your frosting, clean up and get the frosting ready to go. I will admit, this makes it harder to wait for the cupcakes to cool. At least, for me it is. Mainly because I am thinking, "But everything is all ready! Why can't I just frost them now?!" And my logical side answers, "Because then the frosting will melt and you'll have to scrap it off and wait longer." So yeah.
That's pretty much all I can think of for now. Maybe I'll come back and you can learn a few more tips and tricks from me.

Find the Supermoon!

Hello everybody!!! I haven't posted in a while . . . whoops. Anyway! Tonight there will be a supermoon! "What the heck is a supermoon?" ((From now on you people will be portrayed with that orange color, kay?)) A supermoon is a full moon that is 14% closer and 30% brighter than a normal moon. So it should be easy to find.
